10W40 Engine Oil
I have 2000 MGF VVC and have previously used Castrol Magnetec GTX as recommended to me however I now can't find this at a reasonable price and it seems to have been replaced with either 'Magnetec' or 'GTX' only versions.
So which one should I use?
Or should I try Shell Helix HX7 or Mobil Super 2000 X1?
They're all a similar price, is there much difference in performance?

Re: 10W40 Engine Oil
I don't know if Brown and Gammons still recommend Castol Magnatec 10W-40 semi synthetic but they certainly used to. They know a thing or two about MGs.
So I have stuck with it and after 206000 miles my first F is still going very well without using oil between the 12000 mile changes and flies through MOT emission tests so I think it is worth paying the extra. Some people have tittered that Castrol changed the name to part synthetic but the facts speak for themselves as far as I am concerned.

Anyone know the capacity of a 2001 VVC engine? Is it 4.5 litres?

in principle you are right, the quality that commercial producers use nowadays are so much higher than the prescribed minimum standards.Helsbyman wrote:Hi there

But how come, using the high quality oil I use out of Bruno's racing engine oil stock results in a so much more quite and smooth running engine compared to the oil my previous workshop used to fill the F and TF with?
If you want to use the car for a long period of time (owing one for 17 yrs and one for 10 years now, and intending to keep them both in the family) there is absolutely a valid reason to use higher quality oil compared to the cheap or even normal price range products.
