MG CD Player

Post by beefio » Fri Apr 14, 2017 7:41 am

I want to keep my MG CD player as I like the original look however I wondered if there is any way of connecting an 'Auxiliary' to the unit?

So I could connect a Bluetooth adapter for example...

In a word - no (unless you open up the unit and alter the internals).

You used to be able to buy secondary units that would take your signal and convert it to a FM radio signal that the radio would pick up.

I thought that might be the case.

Yes I have seen those before but thought the sound quality might not be great, I'll check it out...

This is sort of thing I found on amazon, pretty cheap at £13 and lots of good reviews...so might be worth a try, but I really wanted something that was intergrated that you couldn't see...

It could be hidden if you install a socket in the cubby hole.

Looks like it may be possible after all looking at the following thread...

http://forums.mg-rover.org/mgf-mgtf-spo ... 306?page=1

It says that you can use a connects 2 unit which fools the factory head unit into thinking it has a CD changer connected and allows you to input any audio.

So is there a CD changer available for the head unit I have? If so then it will have an input on the head unit which could be used to attach an aux input as described above.

I've found the following item on the connect 2 website but not sure if it's one the OP is referring to so may have to call them...

OK. That is a cd43. I have the same one and have spent years trying to figure out if a cd changer was or can be attached. The changer for the early cars with the cassette players does not work. A couple of years ago there was someone on the bay selling an ipod adapter but I haven't seen it recently. I am looking into the BMW Z3 which shared bits with the MGF including the boot rack and the cd43. I spoke to a guy on ebay who deals in BMW bits and seems to know his cables. I managed to get what I think is the 5m cable to connect the changer to the head about 2 years ago and literally this week I found a changer from a Z3. Once it arrives I will check out the connectors on the cable with changer and head. You might explore the BMW forums too but you need cable and changer. The cable is not seen to have value by the BMW breakers. Even if the cables fit there is some evidence the head might need programing. Still that's the fun right? Ash

I've used the bluetooth/fm modulators linked to earlier in the post a few times in the past, as long as you buy a good known brand you should be okay. It's the cheap generic ones that cause issues.

Just get hold of another cigarette lighter socket & wire it to the spare ignition live in the fuse box, add an earth & bobs your uncle, I have something similar wired in behind the dash.

Not for hands free, just for music. The sound was perfectly acceptable IMO.

I use a sony bt head unit now for calls & music. Music is fine but I've been told the calls echo on the other end, but the sound quality is fine. I need to experiment with the settings and mic location.

I spoke to Connect2 and their cable i linked to above only works with head units that have an 'aux' input option which my standard MG unit didn't, they do however also make a box that connect to my head unit via the CD changer input and tricks the HU into thinking a CD changer is connected allowing you to connect another device instead, in my case a Bluetooth receiver for connecting my iPhone which will allow music, streamed radio and sat nav directors to be played via the head unit.

I've ordered the unit and will let you know if it works ok...

It's a Rover 75 aux input adapter CTVRVX003 which is also compatible with the other model had units with mini-ISO connectors...
