What colour is it at the moment, it's hard to tell from the photo.
Home to black Alfa 159 3.2 V6 Q4, blue MGZR160, green MGF VVC and grey MGF 1.8i, and red MG Maestro T16.

Re: What colour for Hardtop?
It's an SP Cheetah one, originally made by Krafthaus. As you can see, it has two raised tears from Bach to front and a slight spoiler over the top of the glass.

Re: What colour for Hardtop?
Once who asked "Who has colour coded their hardtop?" A few hands shot up. "Looks rubbish doesn't it?" He said. To be fair he used a different word to rubbish. All hardtops were supplied black I think. Unless there was a special edition maybe.
I think silver looks good with blue.

Re: What colour for Hardtop?
I think hard tops were produced in black or white until about 2001? Then could be colour coded for a premium.
Beefio, Anthracite is my default colour, but was thinking of possibly a graphite colour to show off the rear spoiler on the hood and to contrast slightly with the car.
My red TF has a white hard top - original MG racing colours and looks great!

Re: What colour for Hardtop?
I'd go for Anthracite. Not seen one of those Krafthaus tops before, would be interested in seeing a few more photos of it. The McGovern comment refers I think to the original MGF which had black A posts which matched the black hardtop. Heritage hardtops come in whatever colour you wanted, I have got a cream hardtop in an attempt to match the tan soft top on my Abingdon

Re: What colour for Hardtop?
Mk1 had a black shiny hardtop, combined with the windscreen frame in the same colour. On the Mk2 the colour of both was changed into the uniform colourscheme.MrNatural wrote:I think hard tops were produced in black or white until about 2001? Then could be colour coded for a premium.....
MGFvvc - 90FVBG - charcoal - you might think it is original - (1996 nr:8204)
MGTF 120 - 57RNJ7 - BRG - every day is an MG day - (2005)
MGC CGT - SJ08DY - tartan red - 1985 restauration fairly original - (1968 nr: 4137)

Re: What colour for Hardtop?
Almost never see one with the spoiler, so that is a very good find!
Even rarer is the hardtop that they made with a sun roof, or the other that they finished in canvass so that it looked rather like the softtop!

Re: What colour for Hardtop?
If not the one, one that looks very similar indeed! Pretty sure the one I saw at Krafthaus was built into one of their own hardtops rather than the factory version, but sadly this was back in the days before I had a digital camera (and the camera phone had yet to be invented! LOL )
I like this idea a lot by the way. Would be the perfect thing to have on the car over the winter

Re: What colour for Hardtop?
I am still struggling with the seat business BTW Rob
I have to have them on runners as not only me drives my cars. I can, of course, just put the runners on new seats, but then not sure how easy it would be to affix the pretensioner. I also like the MR2 seats. Pity MGR were not a bit more inventive in this area!

Re: What colour for Hardtop?
Hi Mike, I have MGF Centre speedster seats in my TF and want the same in my Trophy. But the guy who makes them has died and so they are no longer available for the foreseeable future, if at all. Despite contacting many auto upholsterers, none are interested in making me something similar from standard TF seats or helping me create bespoke seats for the Trophy. So I have been looking at alternatives like MR2, MX5 (mmm...) and racing seats, but none seem to really fit the bill, or their dimensions are too big, or may compromise the SRS system re the seat belt pre-tensioner.
Looking for suggestions really as I find the standard TF seats rather boring in style, though using the original bases would make matters much easier.

Re: What colour for Hardtop?
Now I understand your problem.
Many people including myself have used this person for recovering MX5 seats in leather to go in Triumph TR4's,5's & TR6's. When he did mine in my TR6 he added extra pocket in the back of the seat & another on the seat base at the front & fitted seat heaters.
Maybe worth a try for you.
