Just had a look to see how the bidding is going with these. One is at £123, (though only the cockpit section) the other with over three days to go is, and I am stunned at this, at £445.

Yup, that's what they went for! How hard would it be to make one I wonder? The original MG one is very nice as it has embossed MG logos on it... but how well does it seal along the doors?

The full tonneau I had on my Triumph Spitfire had press studs on the door tops to stop them flapping around?

Hi Rob

The full tonneau uses magnets in the material along the doors.

As mentioned the tonneau has magnets along the door section, which in terms of holding it in place (window down) work very well together with the door mirror strap. One problem I have found and I know others have mentioned it, is where the magnets make contact with the bodywork whiteish marks can be left, though they do seem to polish out. This spring when getting the full tonneau out for use, a number of the magnets had 'met up'. There is small opening at one end the section housing the magnets and you can slide the magnets to the opening, take them out and seperate them. When doing this I noticed the magnets are 'greased' so I am wondering if the grease is somehow getting through (presumbly the backing material must slightly porous) and thus causing the marks.

My earlier Posts suggested improvements that could be made to the OEM Full Tonneau.
If there is sufficient interest, an option may be to get a quote from BAS International either individually or for a batch.
I took my rear section to a "Hood Specialist" who advertises in a MG Club magazine together with the correct material (from BAS) to modify it to the MK2 Hood cover "Tail" that fits the boot lid cover. A week or 2, 6 weeks later I picked it up and stopped at a sailmaker in Coventry. 20 Mins and a coffee later and it was done.

That sounds a great idea Geoff, and I had not thought about modifying the rear section before - I like that idea to!!

I like the idea of 'extending' the tonneau to get trapped with the bootlid. Getting the small straps installed with the rivets at the rear is the only thing I didn't do on my full tonneau cover install.

I would also like to modify the standard half tonneau cover to cope with the 'double mounting' in the middle of the T-bar.... so I can just keep using the half tonneau in vinyl.

Would I be interested if BAS (or any other company delivering quality) could deliver a full tonneau .... mmmm.... full tonneau covers in different colors. I wouldn't mind a cream/beige tonneau cover for my BRG MGF w. cream seats.

Donwside (IMHO) about the full tonneau
- it is fabric and the manual says not to use it in wet conditions. Would it make sense to use a hood sealer on the full tonneau cover ?
- it requires quite some force to have it installed .... or my car is just an inch larger than standard :-)

Different car, but same principle, I've been using my full tonneau on my Midget during the hot weather ( where i park at work seagulls are a menace!). it doesn't seal to the doors, but has a flap which overlaps which prevents rain getting into the doors. The difference i suppose is that it is taut, being fixed to the base of the windscreen. if you could fix the tonneau at the front edge, say to the door, you wouldn't need the magnets? Also it is a vinyl material similar to older MG hoods, so watertight.

Hi. The MGF tonneau uses small posts right at the front of the car where the windscreen meets the dash. There are 4 plastic screws that need to be changed. If you can find them make sure you change each in turn. If you unscrew all 4 the pipes to the windscreen vents can drop down. Ash

No Tonneau is weather proof however legalities in modern times require the manufacturer totell you.
I found it hard to fit the tonneau over the front pins with the rear ones fitted first therefore I fit the front first and can get a firmer grip to fit the rears. When I fit both sides, I start the central zip about 5 cm which is easier than doing it later.

My full tonneau cover remained 'waterprooof' in moderate rain at the MGCC Oulton Park race meet a few years ago, so much so a puddle formed in the centre, which was then quite difficult to disperse without it then spilling into the drivers seat as I unzipped. Then on the parade lap of the circuit with it still drizzling, on the still covered passenger side water would bead and roll around before eventually spilling onto me.

I wouldn't mind a full tonneau in vinyl. The one on my Spitfire was certainly a coarsely grained vinyl, and did the trick perfectly.

IMO the perfect would be a tonneau that fitted with the existing part hood cover (tonneau) and then extended to cover the cockpit. If magnets are to keep everything sealed when driving at speed, then perfect :thumbsu:

I don't think it did...when I looked it was shown as 'out of stock' which I think means it was sold before time was up.

Don't worry though guys, I have one, with fittings, to put on eBay asap! 8-)...or offers over £200?

(No longer have an F or TF to put it on)

Hi, I would be interested for 200 :thumbsu:
