Brake Servo Support

Post by beefio » Thu May 04, 2017 10:53 pm

I'm going to fit a brake servo support, has anyone fitted the following MG Mania bracket and is it effective?

http://mgmanialtd.com/index.php?id_prod ... er=product

It doesn't require any holes to be drilled so should be easier to fit.

The other option is the Mike Satur version which does require drilling...

Opinions please?

Have a look at the picture of the MG Mania one mounted - do you have that kind of cabin air intake fitted already?

That 'snorkel' is only fitted on the TF but I have brought one ready to be fitted as it helps prevents water ingress...

That's what I thought, but I didn't know if MkIIs had them, or yours might have had one fitted already, or...

How much did you pay for it, seeing as you keep finding stuff cheaper than I can? :)

I paid £19...

Contact them as they seemed to have more than one when I spoke to them.

Otherwise £24.50 looks like the cheapest at present on eBay...

You could also try local breakers...

I checked Ebay and stuck in a request on the online breaker sites, and £25 was the best I found. Your one sold another and now has no more listed, but someone else is asking £21.

The bulkhead design is the same throughout MGF/TF production, but the air intake changed to the snorkel. This type of stiffener can only really be used with the snorkel, but as you can see, the design principle is pretty straightforward and a similar thing could be fabricated at home that would fit under the earlier box airbox design.

In principle, very similar to the bracket made for B&G, but with additional spreader plates and a larger rectangular stiffener plate - which I think is an exceptionally good idea from young Mr Satur. :thumbsu:

Isn't the kit listed for a LHD car though?

That MS bracket that I linked to is RHD but they also sell LHD.

So you think that the MS bracket would be more effective than the MG Mania one?

I fitted one very similar to the Mania one shown but it was from a .org forum member who was selling them at the time a few years ago.To make fitting easier, ie less unbolting and moving of parts, I rounded two of the corners so the bracket could be 'rolled' into position following advice on this or a similar forum.

Seemed to do 'what it said on the tin' but I will admit to not really feeling any difference in the pedal. I had already fitted SS braided hoses and 4-pot calipers by this stage.

I have tried both the B&G and the same bracket as mentioned by Tipper above - which is essentially the same as that MG Mania one. I haven't tried the MS kit, which is similar to the B&G bracket, but with additional plate work.

I can't comment on the MS kit, but the MG Mania type bracket works better than the B&G bracket in my opinion. But it doesn't completely resolve the problem because now the whole bulkhead moves!!! It needs further triangulation IMO.

I have changed both on my Trophy as it has no ABS, I used the MG Mania bracket, the old air box is a pig to remove as you have to destroy it to get it out but the snorkel just bolts on, I remember that the original advert for the mounting bracket had a video clip that was almost sexual.

That was a nice job and superb bit of recycling :thumbsu: Essentially mimicks the B&G bracket (and the MS version).

It was treated as a belt and braces approach, the Trophy has the larger discs so stopping was not a problem you just have to remember to pump the pedal if the front wheels lock, up as in the old days.

It's been suggested to me that replacing the clevis pins in the brake pedal linkage can give a dramatic improvement.

Anyone tried it before/after a bracket?

I haven't tried this. But it may help if the one in your car is worn. :)
