I want to replace my original manifold with a Janspeed 421 that I've brought and I'd really appreciate any advice/tips on the best way to get the old one off and new one on?
Cheers

Undo the bolts and put the new one on.
For the performance manifolds it's sometimes useful to lift the car quite high off the ground and undo the sump tie bar to get the clearance you need to negotiate the headers past the block.

Yeah I hope it's that easy!
I've read that it's really tight and others have losened the engine mounts. But you think the sump tie bar will do it.
Any other thoughts?

What/where is the sump 'tie bar'?

It's the engine mount attached to the sump.

Yeah I read that. He said it took him hours and he had to lever the engine to get enough space!
Hence me posting this tread...

Right I'm trying to change my manifold over and having trouble!
I even get the old one out!
Do I need to remove the down pipe for the manifold first? All the bolts are completely rusted sonwas trying without?
Do I need to remove the bracket that hold the heat shields so these are getting in the way?
Do I remove the o2 sensor first? I can't seem to get to it, what size spanner do I need?
HELP!!!

In plug the O2 sensor, it's easier to remove it from the pipe when it's off the car.
Remove the heatshield brackets if they are in the way.
Cut the pipes at the bottom where they bend.
Undo the head to manifold bolts.
You should then be able to remove the down pipe up and out.

The bolts that secure the passenger side heat sheald also appears to fix the engine block to the gear box, so is it ok to remove these?
Also someone said to undo the sump tie bar to get clearance, where is it?

It's fine to undo one bell housing bolt,IIRC therd are another 14 holding it togeather.
The tie bar is obvious when you look under the engine.

Is the tie bar towards the rear with 2 bolts into the sump?
