An an insurance broker.

Do you have details of the person who hit you?

Same thing happened to me, just go direct to their insurer and get your own repair quotes to try and keep the cost down.

They normally write cars off if the cost of repair is more than 50% of the cars value. However if you’re dealing with a third party insurer direct in a non fault accident then you should be able to negotiate with them.

Alternatively if they did insist on writing your car off then they would pay you the market value plus you can buy your car back off them for scrap value which is normally a few fundred pounds so you can get it repaired however it would be ‘Cat D’ registered di would affect the future resale value and you have to disclose to insurers...

Alternatively get quotes for the repair and then ask the person who hit you to pay cash...I’ve also done this...

That all looks easily repairable to me. Get a quote and refuse a write off and keep challenging the third party's insurance until you get satisfaction.

Some would call that a car park ding.
A bit of filler and some paint should sort it.

Is the bumper damaged too?

If it is, then to fix that along with the panel then an average bodyshop will probably want to at least 500 quid...if the car is worth less than 1,000 then that's when it could be a write off...however like i said if you just go direct to the third party insurer it shouldn't be an issue...

It is a write off. They reckoned the car is worth £900, the repair exceeded that. I am buying the car back and I shall get a few quotes for the repair. It will need a new bumper

How much was the repair quote?

I guess they based the quote on replacing the whole panel which comes in at nearly £1200 - https://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID018995 (item 15) and a brand new bumper.

A decent body shop will be able to repair those dents and you could use a decent used bumper.

Also do some research on the real value of your car, it'll be worth more than they are offering, check ebay and the classifieds and ask the owner clubs.

Who’s they? The third party insurer or yours?

Did you get your own repair quotes?

Same thing happened to my F and I just brought a used bumper off eBay for £30 and had the shop pray it and fix my damaged panel which cost £600 so no write off.

You could even buy a half decent one in the same paint code and just put it straight on.

You could still urge the repair cost and valuation with them and get it sorted.

Or just buy it back and sort it, but the cat C/D will mean the value reduces by around 30% from say £900 to £600...

Another bit of good advice is to insurer with Peter Best and Hiscox...I properly wrote off a TF the same day I brought it for £900 and Hiscox straight away offered me £1,900 for it, which I bit their hand off for...Hiscox are one of the very best insurers around and I have worked in insurance for over 15 years...

I was shunted last year, but it was done while the vehicle was parked, so no chance of a claim. I managed to find a second-hand spare in the right colour on e-bay at £65 including delivery. However the crash cans were also damaged and they weren't cheap at £75 the pair. It took me about three hours to do the job, but I was being very careful. I also got a hand to align the bumper and get the first four fittings in place.
