Exhaust question on 2009

Post by gerry.laing » Tue Jan 30, 2018 8:11 pm

Can anyone tell me if a 2009 N series has the same manifold and exhaust system including sensor positions and thread size as a standard K series engine, :?

A Supersports exhaust fitted on my 85th without any problems, if that helps.

Gerry

It's not much loader than standard when cruising, but on acceleration gives more of a sports car sound, plus as my car has had a remap it pops and burbles on the over-run when you lift off the accelerator or change gear. I have a TT Mk4 on my everyday car, which drones at motorway speed, but the supersports is only fractionally louder than standard when cruising at 70mph. Pity you're not closer or I would have taken you for a spin.

Hi Nigel,

Sorry for the late reply but took your advise and went for the super sports more than happy with it sounds great and love the overrun as mine also has the remap.
Also found out during fitment the car was running on 2 cats the OE on the manifold and the one in front of the back box I replaced this with a stainless de-cat pipe and the car runs much better I was also thinking of asking for a tax Rebate as it must have scored low on emissions

Just be a little careful Gerry - with the new MoT regulations, it will be an instant fail if the tester finds that emissions equipment has been tampered with or removed. No one really knows how this will be implemented in practice - not least because it will require the MoT tester to have an encyclopedic knowledge of all the emissions equipment fitted to every car in every year of production (no chance!)

Enjoy - I am sure that the engine will be more economical now - so surely much better for CO2? :D

Hi Rob,
Because mine has the N series engine it should only have the OE as standard wich is part of the manifold.
Someone had cut the down pipe and connected the system from the earier model wich has the cat in front of the back box thus running on 2 cats.
:o

Are you sure? 2008-on TFs are homologated to Euro-3 emissions specification - hence the extra manifold catalysts. They also have a post-exhaust catalyst (someone is selling on of these from a LE500 on the bay of fleas at the moment: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MG-TF-LE500- ... SwgHZYDMUj)
