MG Sport and Racing?

Post by Scarlet Fever » Fri Oct 31, 2008 5:26 pm

We get the UK Business Activity Report in the office, anyone know anything about this?

“MG Sports & Racing is to set up a sports car factory on Neachells Lane, near Wolverhampton next year, with the creation of up to 300 jobs.

MG Sports & Racing, Cranhills Hse, Eardiston, Tenbury Wells, WR15 8JP”

I’m intrigued…

Nothing to do with William Riley is it ?

His new place is in Wolverhampton if my memory is correct.
Bilstein shocks, Piper 4-2-1 manifold, Daytona, Vader cold-air induction, custom Z and F Stage 2 re-map, Electric boot release, braided hoses, Blue Magnecor leads, Technozen relays, Stage 1 head, BMW Angel Eyes headlights, "MG" puddle lights.

Yes, it is William Riley. He is currently building the SV in a unit at Eardiston, close to where he lives. The intention is to build the new factory and then bring over all the remaining SV components from Italy so that all his sports car operations will be centralised in the one location.

Yeah, this is what he said he would do ages ago. However, in one of the national newspapers last week, he was in there saying that the credit crunch means the banks won't lend him any more money, so he can't afford to do anything! TBH, the real problem probably boils down to him not selling any cars, as nobody knows how to contact him! I have trouble believing anything he says, but I reckon the bit about the banks not lending him any more money is true!!!

Has he sorted out the issue regarding the use of the MG logo? The last I heard is that it was still in the hands of the legal system and he was forbidden from progressing any plans until a decision had been made.

As far as I am aware, it is still going on between NAC/SAIC & Mr Riley over use of the logo. In the newspaper article, he also said how sales for the car have slowed down! I'm not sure anybody has bought one, expecially as you can still get proper ones from Wyles & Hardy!

Annoyingly, I can't find this article. However, a little bit of it is contained in this one, but it doesn't have Mr Rileys quotes - http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ... own-labour

He reckoned that he had sold one to a lawyer in the states when I bumped into him in April at the pride of Longbridge Rally. I believe the dispute over the badge is still in progress and is more than likely to be carrying on for ages I guess. He's still courting publicity though as the recent front cover of Autoexpress demonstrates with the convertible SV in......vibrant orange ! Be interesting to see if he shows at the NEC Classic Car Show as he did last year.
