Cat value

Post by stux99 » Tue Feb 22, 2022 11:58 am

Q? Just replaced the cat on my 02 Steppy, original fitment. Apparently they are worth something in scrap value?
Can anyone help?
TIA Stu

There are plenty of websites where you can type in the code stamped on the cat to get its value. My original one off of my 2001 MGF sold for £700 last year.

Frightening but true - I almost don't want to confirm it for the rush to scrap! Remember that when the rheumy eyed old breaker pretends he is doing you a favour offering only £150 for the whole car. He will get half that for the steel he weighs in. Each sphere is £40 and a VVC head about £300 almost irrespective of condition. OEM cats £6-700.
Maybe the new GPS speed limiting regs this year will reawaken common sense interest in reliable, fun, cheap-to-run old cars.

They have to be worth some pennies, or else low-lifes wouldn't spend their lives cutting them off parked cars... :grr:
