MGF VVC Production Dates?
Does anyone know when they started producing the F VVC? I ordered mine in March 96 and it is VIN 11604 which I'm guessing makes it an early VVC? I think the F VVC was only announced in "early" 96 and I can't remeber when. Thanks.

I have an original brochure dated 1995 and states MPI and VVC models, production should have started at the same time.
Piper 4-2-1 Manifold, Daytona Back Box, Stage two Remap, Bilstein Shocks, thicker anti roll bars, PG 1 gearbox Caged bearing with type B Ltd Slip Diff. Large rear brake Kit, Toyo R888R Track/road tyres. Half Roll Cage, 4Point Harness.

Re: MGF VVC Production Dates?
Production started in 1995 BUT they were in very short supply until 1996 - We ordered our MPi in 1995 and were told to expect delivery in January 1996 - for the VVC they told us June 1996, so we went for the MPi, which we still have and it has only let us down once when a hose burst.
Re: MGF VVC Production Dates?
As I recall they announced them at the same time but the production of the VVC was delayed as there was a shortage of VVC engines. Whilst mine was ordered in March I didnt take delivery till the end of October. I think the car was available in September but I was overseas so they held it for me. It would be intersting to see who has the earliest F VVC by VIN number. I have never seen a 95 VVC myself.

Remember it well Ted. And here, thanks to the power that is the internet, the pictures!Green Squirrel wrote:Production started in 1995 BUT they were in very short supply until 1996 - We ordered our MPi in 1995 and were told to expect delivery in January 1996 - for the VVC they told us June 1996, so we went for the MPi, which we still have and it has only let us down once when a hose burst.
Interestingly, my own story is pretty similar to Ted's - popped into a dealership at the end of 1995, planning on buying a VVC. Expected delivery on an order was over 6 months at that stage, but they had a couple of 'cancelled' order 1.8MPis in stock. I had a choice of red (the demonstrator), Amaranth (no EPAS) and BTRG (EPAS). As I lived in London, and I was getting fed up of non-PAS hot hatches and parking in tight spots, I got the latter, driving out of the show room in January 1996 with a car built within the first 2500 made. And still have it. And like Ted, been utterly reliable over >101k miles but for a hose failure. But in my case, the collateral damage was worse - needed a new cylinder head. But the good news was I already had a 'spare' TF135 head which I had ported by K-series guru Dave Andrews, and been delighted with the results. Always a silver lining...

Re: MGF VVC Production Dates?
I've done some digging around in the archives, it appears that the first vvc engine (denoted by the letter T in the vin by the way) is on car 00005. As you can see it's from Jan '95 and, as it's pre 000251, it's one of the prototypes, there were, in fact, four built in the first quarter of 1995 following on in ever increasing numbers from there.
Bilstein shocks, Piper 4-2-1 manifold, Daytona, Vader cold-air induction, custom Z and F Stage 2 re-map, Electric boot release, braided hoses, Blue Magnecor leads, Technozen relays, Stage 1 head, BMW Angel Eyes headlights, "MG" puddle lights.

Re: MGF VVC Production Dates?
As I recall, Rover were taken off guard by the demand for the VVC variant - it exceeded by some margin what had been anticipated. Consequently, the production of the VVC engines was insufficient to meet that demand, and deliveries had a significant delay. As Dieter says, VVCs weren't really available in any significant quantity until 1996...

Re: MGF VVC Production Dates?
Hello, I'm reviving the old thread.
I have the opportunity to buy MGF VVC, VIN 004664. Can I find out how many VVCs from the start of production?
I apologize for my terrible English .... but I'm a very big fan of MG / Rover
Thanks

Included in the first 98 preproduction cars there were 34 built with a VVC engine.KDB wrote:Hello, I'm reviving the old thread.

Re: MGF VVC Production Dates?
That's an interesting number. According to the information, 79 pieces of VVC were produced in 1995 ... I am interested in how much VVC was produced from 1.1.1996 to 28.2.1996. VIN 004664 (LHD for Germany) was manufactured around the last week of February 1996. That's why I want to know how many VVCs were produced from 1.1.1996 to 28.2.1996
Congratulations to the beautiful early MGF .... I also want to collect the "SVC" plate ....

Re: MGF VVC Production Dates?
VIN 4664 was the 66th Production VVC built. It came off the assembly line on 15th February 1996. It was the 21st built in 1996 and 1 of 91 built between 1.1.96 and 28.2.96. It was originally despatched to the Netherlands, so may have spent its early life there.
