Re: MG6 VIP Launch Event
I've heard very good feedback already from yesterday's sessions.
I should of been there myself Thursday, but not allowed the time off work

Re: MG6 VIP Launch Event
I'm gutted that after being at a loose end for two months, I had to go away this week on business and missed this opportunity as the MG6 is on the shopping list this year. The drive at Goodwood was in the Chinese spec so I am keen to hear how the UK spec versions stack up. It seems to be getting good press for its handling, but a few criticisms of the interior with which I would agree based on the red car I saw at MPH last year.

Re: MG6 VIP Launch Event
Sadly, it is not the sort of event that pixs are easy to come by.....I went down today, arrived early with the express intention of getting out on track to do some shots. I got out alright, but the pros do a demo of the capabilities of the vehicle, them the amatures like me get to have a go.....while the pros put on a spectacular show of the capabilities and handling on the MG6, we amatures dont even come close to what they do and as we are in car, photos are difficult to say the least. The only way to experience it is to contact your dealer at this late stage and try to get on the event.....believe me, it is well worth the effort!! I am never likely to drive like that on a road, but it is great to know what can be done if required.

Re: MG6 VIP Launch Event
Sorry took so Long but here goes..........
We had a fantastic day that was well worth the effort MG went way beyond my expectations for the day with a very interesting technical brief about the car & what is to come next for the MG6?? which according to MG will be the Saloon version in July then the diesel version some time next year with a 6 speed gear box
The car looks the business in the flesh & I was suitably impressed the all-round handling, comfort, trim & general build quality (did not look cheap IMO) although for me a bit more power at the bottom end would do the car no harm that said it's a very refined drive..........
Thanks to MG for a fantastic experience & also thanks to Summit Garage for putting our names forward I would recommed anyone to Go for a test drive you will be very surprised
Our allocated Car ( Blue...... )
Pensioner at the wheel
Some rather nice TF's....
Hopefully Mr Art will be along to post some more very nice pictures later.

Re: MG6 VIP Launch Event
Thanks for all the photos, now I am really upset I couldn't make it! Nevermind, spending a week in Malaysia on business has it upsides. Glad to hear you all enjoyed it and there is a lot positive press on Facebook from those that attended, but rumours are that there will be a 2L turbo engine next year plus a V6 according to AutoExpress, was any of that mentioned? So big quandary...buy this year or wait a bit longer?

Re: MG6 VIP Launch Event
Might be a bit blasphemous ... but IMHO the MG6 is not a car that will be something special on the streets. Just two comparisons here (ripped from Steve's photos above - I duly apologise ):
Now the octagon is simply going mainstream. And nothing new on the roadster front as well ...
So now go and erect the stake
Mykel
To me this is simply putting the MG badge onto a very ordinary car. Has been done before with the Z-Series, but yet those were re-engineered Rovers and this is where MG originally came from, pimping up standard vehicles. Like the BMW M-Series or Brabus Mercs. Now the octagon is simply going mainstream. And nothing new on the roadster front as well ...

Re: MG6 VIP Launch Event
Thanks for the links, Martin, news haven't hit the road over here so far.
Yet I'm not too impressed with the concept drawings either ... they look a bit like they had taken the design team to a japanese manga drawing class beforehand. But we all know the evolution from concept to production, don't we? So there still is hope that there will be a proper British sports car in the future.
Cheers

Re: MG6 VIP Launch Event
Interesting that this has only just been made official; it must be at least 6 months since the last TF was built?Autocar wrote:The Chinese-owned company made the decision last week to wind up production of the TF. It blames dwindling demand and component supply problems for invalidating the business case for the car.
Encouraging that there has been some progress on the sports car front. As has been said many times before, a car range without a sports car in it is not an MG range of vehicles - it'll never be taken seriously as such. But if we get a roadster that performs, handles and is built well, then celebration time!!!

Part 2
A drive down the wet road test track
A talk about MG past present and future
The afternoon closed with a session with that ' chirpy brummie ' Ian Pogson who described the advanced engineering built into the MG6

Re: MG6 VIP Launch Event
I can assure it looks nothing like a Prius ! , for the V/w comparrison I would say it looks more Scirocco than Golf.Mykel wrote:Might be a bit blasphemous ... but IMHO the MG6 is not a car that will be something special on the streets. The MG6 looks far better in the metal than in a picture. Once you drive an MG6 you will also discover it is not an ordinary car, it is very much an MG.
I was unsure about the rear styling at first but when you see one on the road it does look very stylish . Remember they are making a saloon version
