Re: The 100K Club
Alas I'm doomed never to be a member! Got mine Sep 1998 at 14850 miles, retired 2003 and stopped fine-weather commuting at 51300, and have now reached 66988. At the present rate I won't reach 100k until some time in 2032, so I'd be 94 and the car 36. Some hopes

Re: The 100K Club
The predecessor to my TF, my trusty Rover 214 ( T reg ) got to over 181,000 miles and still runs just fine.
It had the headgasket at 93,000 miles, a new clutch and gearbox at 128,000 miles and apart from servicing, that was it. It took me on many awesome trips, including some continental to South of France, Holland, Belgium. It was my Uni car, work car (was doing 500 miles a week at one point), and at the end of it's life in my ownership was taking me all over the country with work. My bond with that car was immense. Anyone that slagged my Rover off soon shut up when I showed them the mileage.
As for my TF, it had 18,560 miles when I got it 5 months ago, now its just under 27,000 miles. Doubt I'll get this one to 100,000.

My lil trooper marched on past 100,000 miles last week. Just had the offside rear wheel bearing and falangee replaced. Still on the original head though!

Re: The 100K Club
Providing you look after it, follow the servicing schedule re cam belt(s), use good semi-synthetic oil & replace the filter regularly there is no reason why the engine cannot clock up many thousands more miles. The only weak point with the K series engine is the head gasket issue. Apart from that it's pretty bomb-proof.spooneryork wrote: I've Just bought my first MGF which is on 87k I've Just had the cambelt changed and the engine seems to be decent, what sort of milage (as an average) will the engine do before it needs replacing/starts having major issues etc???

Re: The 100K Club
Got the Cambelt and water pump done when I got the car 87k on the clock, I would assume on this sort of milage the Head Gasket must have done ages ago? I will get the oil and filter done every 6000 miles?

Re: The 100K Club
Not necessarily. I know of a couple of cars with over 100k which are still on their original head gaskets.spooneryork wrote:Got the Cambelt and water pump done when I got the car 87k on the clock, I would assume on this sort of milage the Head Gasket must have done ages ago?
I do it once a year after the winter, regardless of the miles travelled. In my case this is an average interval of 20k, but that's with a lot of long distance driving. It's part of the annual spring clean, together with the other usual suspects, like greasing everything, cleaning the air filter (K&N), swapping the petrol filter aso asf.spooneryork wrote:I will get the oil and filter done every 6000 miles?

My F racked up 188,888.8 Km whilst driving home from the 2013 Australian MG National meeting, no doubt helped by it's use as the pace car for the sprint event. I couldn't get a photo as I was busy driving at the time.

Re: The 100K Club
Well come this Friday my 97F will hit the 100K miles - There is 99850 on the clock at the moment and I have to go to Perpignan next weekend which will be a round trip of roughly 350 miles so the deed may well be done somewhere on the A9. Not sure whether I'll have a camera to hand but at least it will be another one to pass the famous milestone even though it's taken over 16 years to get there.
Re: The 100K Club
Phoenix hit 100,000 before Christmas - now on just under 103k. No idea how long she'll last but im trying to keep her on the road

Re: The 100K Club
Well we finally clocked up the 100K on the A9 just north of Narbonne, travelling south to Perpignan. Lovely day, roof down all the way. Different story today on the way back - pouring rain, spray & mist.
Didn't notice the photo until we got home - I like how all the dials balance each other out.
I wasn't speeding by the way... just right on the limit here in Frogland.

Got a 134,000 on my ebay bargain shed.
Re: The 100K Club
This past weekend I rolled over 100,000 miles just south of Xenia, Ohio, USA.
It's been a good year for the F. I just returned from a weekend trip to eastern Kentucky (a long time MGB friend past away), about 1,200 miles return trip, and have a trip next weekend to French Lick, Indiana, to the North American MGB Registers AGM, where I head up the Post Abingdon Registrar, which will add another 1,300 miles to the odometer. So the total miles for the year will be around 7,000 miles by the time the F is put to bed next month. Milage like this makes me glad that I use fully synthetic motor oil.
