Silver 80th

Post by karnevil » Tue Oct 04, 2011 7:40 pm

Before I trudge 150 miles to look I would appriciate some input.
I have spoken to the vendor and been told that the previous owner did not like the red roof so had it replaced, which is the one thing that makes me think it is or could be an 80th.BUT.The seats seem wrong there is no"1924 MG 2004" badge at the rear although the door handles look bright. So was there any different 80th's?
Vendor is adamant it says 80th on logbook.

EDIT:Scrub that even the wheels are wrong. It's just a 2004 TF.

Yeah, its not an 80th just a bog standard TF135.

The hoods wrong, the wheels are wrong, the interior is wrong too. Why would you have an 80th edition and then strip out everything that made it special?

As J13UTM says, there are several features that should be should be found on and 80th that are not on that car. To add a bit more details about the bits that are missing:
Wheels should be 16" 11 spoke TF wheels in shadow chrome finish
Front brakes should have red AP Racing 4 pot callipers with larger discs.
Seats should be red alcantara with "1924 MG 2004" embroidered into them.
Door cards should have red alcantara trim and bright silver door cappings
Steering wheel should be black/bright silver
Centre console trim should in bright silver
Centre cubby box should have "80th anniversary No.XXX of XXX" badge designating it as a limited edition.
The original buyer would have been given an 80th Anniversary certificate, but these quite often get lost.

When you also consider it doesn’t have a red hood or the correct badges either then it is most definitely not an 80th LE regardless what the logbook says.

I second ...erm third those observations. I have an 04 TF135 with the same spec as this one. I paid £1700 for it in very good condition with the same mileage.

Thanks for the input people.
I had rather drawn these conclusions myself.
The vendor was most adamant that it was what it was described as.I guess I just wanted to make sure that no one was gonna pop up and say "Ah yes but they made some odd missfired ones by mistake"which would make it a bit odd and interesting.
Oh well the search goes on!

Don't wont to be an ...., but to make the list even more complete
- handbrake grip is wrong too, shouldn't be black, but silver/alu one
- ashtray should be the chrome one
- I am even unsure about the gearknob.
- at the outside, the 80th LE comes with chrome mesh, not the standard black ones.

If you fancy the car, tell the seller you believe it is an 80th LE. Tell him it is a fair price for an LE8th. However to fit all the missing parts you need a reduction of the price:
- nice grenadine alcantara interior: £350
- 16" shadow chrome 11-spokes and tyres: £500
- steering wheel and interior bright silver bits: £250
- AP brakes and discs: £400
- grenadine softtop: £400
- badges, without the numbered xxx/1600 one: £80

Reduce the price with at least £100 as the certificate will be missing, and you end up with the fair price £415. After all he is the liar.
