Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Well there's a lot of selection when it comes to pre made bends etc for exhaust tube James.. So DIY is possible..

Whatever you do it can't be worse than the V6 one that has the elbow about 5mm from the floor Ive seen

I'm secretly hankering after a multi weld look so I can say I did that,

The ultimate plan is a low boost supercharger so I'd be looking at the best part of £1.5K if I got it made up.

Well I no longer bother about people thinking I did things myself. Perhaps I got that out fo my system back when building chops and make risers and slabs for others. I just want a reasonably priced performance tubular tuned length manifold .

Well had a stroke of luck yesterday (Sunday) as we went on a little MG run in Derbyshire with a few like minded folks Thirteen MGF's & TFs ina little convoy up through the peaks............... Good day was had by all. We called in at Glossop to a well known MGF specialist and low and behold when i asked they had a nice manifold that was recently removed from a write off. So a deal has been done ..................................... had to run it past "The Chancellor" this morning and got the nod so it's reserved fro me to go over and collect.

Another day out it seems is coming up :D

The only snag from yesterday was that on the way home whilst driving past Revesby Park the EPAS light came on and speedo stopped working ................................. suspect broken lower cable but will know for sure shorlty when I go out intot eh cold and check.

It seems in all their years this is THE ONLY proper performance exhaust manifold they have come across on a breaker car. Boy am I glad that I went to the Derbyshire Run on Sunday :thumbsu: I also bet this has used up all the years luck for me :roll: .

I have just had a Mike Satur complete stainless steel exhaust system fitted. This is a 4:2:1 manifold, sports cat and Daytona box.
There is a noticeable gain in power and torque, smoother to drive and a great exhaust tone. If you are looking for an upgrade then this ticks several boxes for me.
I will finish off with a foam panel filter as a replacement for the standard paper element at the next service.

After the expense and effort of the exhaust why spoil the result with a restrictive inlet, I'd get a decent induction as well.

I have seen an exhaust manifold on ebay from performance motorsport parts does anyone know anything about them, they are much cheaper than JS and MS.
I will be buying a 4-2-1 in the spring.

The induction system on the TF has two intake pipes and a larger filter surface area than the F and I cant see there would be much difference to the after market offerings apart from the aesthetics. Its worth looking at some of the tests / assessments on YouTube, quite an eye opener.
I suspect that the exhaust was more of a limiting factor to gas flow than the intake so will try the foam filter and see if there is any further increase before embarking on further modifications.
If anyone has any experience on this I would like to hear, also on the issue of getting a colder feed of air to the intakes.

Most of us run the near side induction pipe from the filter down to the nearside rear air vent
TF 160 'oggy of the ampshire ogs' / ZR 160 (sadly now deceased) hooray now resurrected by Dave at Church Square Autos.

Thanks, when I look into the inspection slot from the boot I can one intake but not the other, have been under the car but cant immediately locate it, probably me being unobservant, where should I be looking roughly?

Hi Larry -
One intake sits at the rear of the engine bay - on the subframe cross member, on my "f" the rear intake pipe basically sits alongside the airbox although I, like you, am looking at ways to get some cooler air in. So far moving one to the N/s vent seems a good shout and then I'm tempted to take a leaf from the K&N57i fitting instructions and use some cool air ducting from the underneath of the car to try and direct some cooler air into the engine bay during driving. Not ideal though....the best solution would be to try modify both to go to the N/s vent but I have not yet been able to measure the Outside diameter of both the intake pipes to figure out how viable this option is!

I fitted the foam filter at the weekend during the basic service, it seems to make for smoother running and slightly easier acceleration but no huge differences, not that I was expecting any. A quick calculation shows the size of the two intake pipes to be larger than the feed to the intake manifold so no restriction there.
I have bought a pscan unit and had my trusty co-pilot watch the intake temperature while we drove around and was interested to see it reached 50degC on occasions. We did the same exercise in our VW and it appeared to max out at around 30degC, with an ambient temperature of about 9degC. The VW air intake is concealed in the front grille and so feeds in air as cold as possible.
I suspect directing both intake pipes on the MG to the nearside air vent will have a beneficial effect or least I will be able to measure it under similar conditions. Looking at the size and shape of the hole on the inner panel of the vent it looks large enough to take both nozzles but routing the pipes through looks tortuous!

Hi Larry,

The figures don't surprise me, the engine bay temps get up to something chronic in the F. There's plenty of threads exploring whether the side vents actually feed any air into the bay - however if the pipes were moved at least the cold air sucked in would be ambient. I have toyed with ideas of re-routing it to the front but I feel the tract would be too long.

As I said the K&N option of mounting at the bottom of the engine bay seems to be the best option other than the side vent, as you say redirecting the intake pipes from the box would be a pain with the original hoses - the only option really is finding suitable ducting with the correct Inside diameter to re route, although there are plenty of threads around here/MG Rover forums/The T Bar about doing so.

I'm pleased to hear the filter made a good difference! It's on my list to do along with the 52mm T/b but for now I've got a new battery to fit and need to make a go at changing my front brake pads and then a knackered cat to replace before my Feb MOT!
