Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Cloudy fog lights

Post by Meg55 » Sun Dec 04, 2016 12:32 pm

The front fog lights on my 2005my tf have a cloudy film on the inside of the lenses. What causes this? Is there a way to access inside the light? What would I use to clean it if I can get to it?
Cheers M

My fog lights were the same but I sold the car before getting to cleaning them! I've no idea why they went foggy. The dealer who later sold the car on never bothered to clean them either judging by the photos on his website.

It was always my intention to remove the fog lights, which is really a bumper off job, and clean the inside of the glass with a stick with rag wrapped around its end like a giant cotton bud poking it in through the bulb hole. I suppose it may be possible to do it with the lights and bumper on the car as there is an access hole on the underside of the bumper but I'm sure I would struggle to be flexible enough to do it!
I assume some meths or similar spirit would aid the cleaning too.
