Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Both windows stopped working

Post by webba » Thu Jun 21, 2018 11:49 pm

Help please , I have a 2000 mpi and both windows have stopped working , i have checked all fuses including under the bonnet and swapped the relay ,the electric mirrors which are supposedly on the same fuse still work. I struggle to believe both motors have failed simultaneously. ,the car displays no other faults except my obd reader does not work on it any more . please can somebody help?

If it is the same loom as my '96 mpi there is a third fuse in the circuit which supplies 12v to a relay which feeds both individually fused window lift motors. Have you checked them all in the under dash fuse box?

If all fuses are fine, and you swapped relay, I would say it is time to take multimeter and measure power on the fuses.

Your car is MY 2000, but with MEMS3 loom? Do you have BCU then instead of 5AS?

If you do not know how to work with multimeter, then you either need to have helping hand from some who do, or you would need auto electrician help.
I would offer help, but I live in Croatia, so I am far away.

Difference is what controls windows and in which way. I would assume that you have 5AS and square fob with two buttons. If so, then what I said to check voltage on fuses and relay when key is in position II.
