Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Running late sorry, but I have the same combination of pscan faults with a fuel pump seized in a stored-for-7-years F, with fuel that smelled more like white spirit than petrol.

Hi, just an update.

I have fitted a new coolant temperature sensor and it has cleared the fault code for that.
I now have 2 fault codes crankshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor sync.
Car still has trouble starting and when it does it cuts out, either after a few seconds or sometimes runs up for about 5 mins.
I have fitted a new crankshaft sensor and no change
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks Garry

Hi Garry,
I finally got to the bottom of my fuel pump testing on the other thread. Your situation sounds very similar to mine with a stored for 7 years car and the same pscan faults recorded (bar the temperature sensor). My guess is you only added more fuel without removing the 8 year old sludge? This stuff won't be doing the system any good. Does the car rev cleanly when it is running? Maybe you can add a lot of four star and get it to run hard enough to clean the crud into the fuel filter or maybe it is already in there!
I am awaiting a fuel pressure tester from ebay to see what my cleaned up pump is producing. In your situation I wouldn't bother trying to fix the pump, just replace it with one from ebay and fit a new fuel filter after running the new pump for some time. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi, thanks for the advice, very much appreciated. I am going to take the fuel pump out over next few days clean and test it, a very good piece on the fuel pump by the way, Your right about the fuel, I just added new to the old stuff that had been in years, am going to try and empty as much as I can and put decent fuel in. I have already changed the fuel filter but may have to change it again once all back together.
Cheers Garry

One thing that is worth trying is Super Unleaded. My F hadn't been used for several months, and was running rather roughly. It needed fuel, so I filled it with Super, after a few miles there was a noticeable difference. The engine was more responsive, ran more smoothly and appeared to accelerate better. As I do very little mileage I think I'll stick with the Super in future. I can't understand why I hadn't tried it before as I always use Super in the Jag, which uses nearly twice the fuel.

I normally run a couple of tanks of Tesco momentum through my cars after a long lay up. It is 99 ron so more potent than Shell or BP, is cheaper and the nearest Tescos petrol station is by far the nearest petrol station, I can almost see it from my house.

Hello thanks for the reply, car has been off the road for about 8 years before I bought it but did put fresh petrol in. Will check the earth strap, leads and rotor cap look ok but probably do no harm to replace those along with the spark plugs.
Love the car though and looking forward to getting it on the road
8 years, have you fitted a new timing belt yet!!!

I wouldn't be running the engine at all without a new one.

I was lucky with the old fuel in my car, not run for a year and then 3 more for me to do my engine and gearbox refit,
but by the time I'd finished I had completely drained all the fuel lines. It took me about 2 gallons to refill and prime the fuel system,
so if your car's delivery system was 'full' of petrol even when the tank reads E there;s still a good gallon sitting in the system.
And it's near impossible to drain out.

But you can get a plastic siphon pump and pump it out from the filler neck, a few bucks from the motor shop.
