Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Bolt on engine performance 120PS non VVC engine

Post by RobboMC » Wed Sep 21, 2022 2:30 am

How do I get my car to do better lap times?

Has anyone got these:

Kent cams from Rimmer
https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-RP1559

I note that Rob has used Lotus cams in Project Shed

I suspect a 52 mm throttle body and a K&N air filter might also improve the breathing.

OR

I still have the 135 PS cams and plug top coils from the block/head/valve springs that's in the car, but that means a 135 CPU with wiring harness and replacing the
matching alarm system and reprogram the key fobs???

8 years ago I went in the direction of detuning the 135 to a 120PS to use the CPU I have in the car, perhaps it's time to undo that process
and have 135PS under my right foot.

Hi Rob

No really secret source on this, but yes, I have used Lotus Sport/ MGTF135 cams, 52mm throttlebody, 4-2-1 exhaust manifold, aftermarket exhaust - and if you fancy, a sports catalyst. You can also tweak the ignition timing and fuel trim in MEMS1.9 to get another 4-5bhp... I've got my two MGF 120 up to around 140bhp... :)
