Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

high pitch squealing

Post by MGBev » Wed May 01, 2013 4:42 pm

Hi all - a strange high pitch noise occurred while driving my F home. I was in stationary traffic and it was warm so I decided to take off my jacket. For this I had to undo the seat belt. Then I heard this noise! Is there such a thing as a seat belt alarm that happens when the car's engine is on and the seat belt is taken off?
thank you

No seat belt alarm, Could it have been the alternator belt? If so it needs checking

What kind of noise was it? Japanese Market cars were fitted with seat belt warning lamps, but not an audible alarm. Unless someone has undertaken a special electronics project on your car in the past???

Other squealing noises can come from belts as described above - so the question is whether the noise was electronic or mechanical Bev?

I think it sounded electronic. I'll have to test it on a quiet road..

If it is a seat belt warning alarm, just start the engine without the seat belt on whilst sat on the drive.

yes that's a good idea, unless it was because I was moving slightly. I'll give it a go
