Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.
Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.
Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway!
Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Re: K series clear cam belt cover
It needs vacuum forming or CNC machining really..
Ive found a company who will machine one.. but the cost is
I'd have thought a few of the Lotus guys would of run them

Re: K series clear cam belt cover
I doubt it. May be carbon fibre to save weight, but I don't think transparent would float the Lotus guys' boat.
Have you tried the ZR/ZS detailing guys?
You won't be able to see much of the cam belt with the engine in the car. Perhaps you can get 80% of the effect you're after by putting a polycarbonate window in the top of the standard cam cover?

Re: K series clear cam belt cover
The engine bay cover will be replaced with a custom made Lexion cover..
But appreciate the view of the clear cam cover will still be limited
Didnt think of the ZR guys

Re: K series clear cam belt cover
In my many years around K series engines I've never seen a clear cambelt cover, the nearest is Andy Watsons clear engine cover or the clear coolant pipes available for the ZR.

Re: K series clear cam belt cover
Looks like a good plan. Just a shame it will be hidden away on an MGF/TF. If you make the prototype there is no reason a vacumm former wont be able to copie the design in any colour including clear. And im sure the Z boys would snap them up in body colours.

Re: K series clear cam belt cover
I think that the above would be the easiest/cost effective solution Allan - looks good! Can you see the cam wheels from above with those windows let into the standard cover?

One of the most awsome coffee tables in the land!
Mind you, the Porsche 928 V8 block that Jeremy Clarkson has on TG probably just pips you to the post!

Re: K series clear cam belt cover
It almost certainly did. He made more money breaking the car than he did buying it, so his coffee table (sans glass top etc) cost the BBC nothing...

Re: K series clear cam belt cover
I am sure you've put this on the ZR, ZS and ZT forums already? Also might be worth seeing whether any of the K-Midget guys might be interested What is the projected cost?

Re: K series clear cam belt cover
I was peering through at the engine from the boot of the TF yesterday thinking a clear cover or at the very least, a clear window would be useful...
Will watch this with interest, very interested
