Okay, finally made my mind up to register on Kickstarter. That’s another pledge taken on the way to the goal for end of June. I do hope that we all can attract some more interest and raise more backers at MG90 over the weekend.

By the way, I do have a diagnostic tool for MGR and other cars. Sadly due to the lack of a technical counterpart in the industry, there won't be any more development in the future. But your project is work in progress and I see many more features to come in the future. Also I appreciate the fnatastic effort you put into this for other enthusiasts. Top job! :thumbsu:

And Phillip, my offer to help with localisation is still standing. Maybe not the first priority on your list now, but there’s quite a large target audience here, especially with most of the old dealership having died after 2005 and therefore a massive lack in Testbook equipped garages.

I agree Mykel - it's not so much what the device can do now that is interesting (and actually it is actually already very useful in terms of reading/clearing error codes and reading live data from MEMS, ABS, Airbag ECUs), but what it could be used for in future - particularly if those with a software engineering bent can get their hands on it :D

And yes, as an affordable diagnostic tool for small business, there has to be a usefully sized market for that alone - both here in the UK and in Europe?

I'm shaking the piggy bank to get one! :D

I am still quite surprised that none of this showed on the Android app, Torque

Ideal for mobile mechanics surely...especially as it shows fault codes that the T300 doesn't...do they know about this?

OK I have what is probably a really dopy question - I can see the advantage of identifying the faults but if, for instance, it says a sensor is faulty, surely eliminating the fault code doesn't eliminate the fault itself?

Hi Correct but with a workshop manual which is available from the shop you should be able to change the sensor or at least get someone else to. Ash

In general you are correct. Error codes allow you to narrow the fault down, so if a code is associated with one sensor you only need to check the wiring and connectors that go to that one particular sensor and not the whole engine.

That said it seems on the 75/ZT that if the airbag light comes on it seems to stay on even after the actual fault is no longer present (I'm not a 75 expert though so if someone disagrees I will bow to their experience). So say you unplug an airbag, maybe you remove a seat or something, and turn on the ignition then the warning light will come on and won't go off even after you plug the airbag back in. In this case the tool will put the light out and so you could say it is eliminating the fault.

Having a fault code is useful (if not always!) - to provide an example, when Project Shed returned from Tech-speed it was running well, but had an uneven idle and the exhaust had a petrol smell suggesting an overly-rich mixture. Perplexed, I connected up a diagnostic tool, and found that the vacuum sensor (Mean Air Pressure sensor) was out of kilter - which could be explained by a detached vacuum line. So I checked, and low and behold - found a detached vacuum line. I plugged it back in, problem solved, and fault went away...

Fault codes provide clues as to what is going on. It isn't often that a fault code means "change part x to solve problem", but in combination with live data and knowing what the symptoms are and how they started, it is possible to track down the real problem :)

As Philip says, his tool can also extinguish warning lamps once the problem is fixed - and that can be the difference between an MoT fail and an MoT pass...

Congrats! Was a long way to go yesterday when I pledged - amazed to see how quick it finished off!

How long until we start to receive the finished shipped units? - no rush - just wondering :D

I think September was the date mentioned on the Kickstarter website?

Phillip

Congratulations on your progress

I have already been asked by one of my fellow Canadians if your system will operate with an MG RV8.more marketing potential for here UK and Australia.
I have already lodged my pledge on Kickstart and would like it shipped to me in Canada and not my UK address... time for that later
I am unsure whether the RV8 used a form of MEMS, ERIC or other system in the ECU

According to the menus in my Bosch KTS the RV8 is a MEMS1.9 or MEMS2J.
I don't think that I believe it though.
