Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Aircon waste water

Post by alanrt » Mon Jul 21, 2014 4:27 pm

After 3 years with a non functioning air con unit in my Mk2 F I finally had it regassed a couple of weeks ago. To my surprise the actual system is still functioning.
However a week ago I became aware that the drain tube is leaking over the passenger footwell. Naturally my hands got wet as I investigated.
I have since developed dermatitus on my hands. I am trying to determine the cause and so I am wondering if the water from the aircon is just condensed water or if it contains any other chemicals. Does anyone know?

It's just condensation, plain, simple, pure water...well it should be!
Could have some bacteria in it from festering away not doing anything. Aircon systems can get smelly sometimes from lack of use due to it.

Agree, should only be condensate that collects from the condenser which should go thru a tube in the floor. This tube has "Lips" on the outer end to stop the ingress of water so is easily blocked.
On a hot trip to Switzerland in 2002 to MGCC CH International Meet, Ann could paddle in the passenger foot well. Sunday was Concours day however we still came 4th in the Modern MG Class albeit the area was strewn with wet carpet and thick soundproof underlay.

Thanks guys. It seems I need to search elsewhere for the cause of my skin problems.
