Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.
Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.
Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway!
Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Got to get another mgf
Hi guys
We have one mgf (mo) but I want to get another one that needs a total restore .
So I can build it to how I want /think one should be built .
Mo will be a pure mgf the other will be different .
Maybe get an n or p reg .
Bodywork ecosse blue
Seats etc Red
Wheels white
Hardtop white
Softop white
May sound odd colours but I think it will look good .
If any of you did an mgf to how you would like it how would you do it ?

Re: Got to get another mgf
I fancy building an MGTF speedster - with either no windscreen or a low fly screen, and areo hump behind the driver. I like the idea of fitting this car with Lamborghini doors. Interior would be inspired by the Eagle E type. Power would be a 1.8t
So many ideas, too little space and time to realise them!

I also have an Anthracite mk1 with carbon wrapped bonnet, TF boot with spoiler, full mk2 beige interior and a LE500 Heritage style Vibrant Orange hardtop and 17 inch black and silver alloys (not going anywhere ever)

I thought about the 911 engine in a Porsche Boxter - would be a cracking little project! Bet it has been done to death by now?Ianburrows wrote:Id do it as a 911 flat 6 motor or may be mazda rx8 rotary power for compactness

Re: Got to get another mgf
isn't there a fundamental difference between a 911 and a Boxter/Cayman in that in the 911 the motor is air-cooled and at the back, and the Boxster/Cayman is a water cooled mid engined with the g/Box at the rear? Don't know if you can swap them over, but wouldn't it be better to try it in a shagged out old Beetle instead?
Did the guy that was putting a Subaru WRX in an F ever get it finished?

Didn't the 911 change to water Cooling in about 1998?

Yep, just checked. The 996 series was introduced in 1998 and was water cooled.

Re: Got to get another mgf
Absolutely - contemporaneous 911 and Boxter generations share the same engine architecture - and also the same front bulkhead/A-fame/front crash structure (that this helps with an engine at the rear, but mentioned only to highlight the engineering similarities between ostensibly two very dissimilar cars.
The devil is in the detail, so there may be reasons why you can't stick a 996 GT3 engine in the middle of a Boxter - but I haven't looked into it! I'm happy just tinkering with my MGs!
