Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Mold!

Post by mknee » Fri Dec 05, 2014 2:46 pm

So, the F has been standing outside for about 4 weeks, got in to start it yesterday & there was mold everywhere!

On the Steering wheel, seats, dash, inside the roof - flippin everywhere!

Anyway, I've cleaned it off with some domestic mold cleaner & my plan going forward is:

- Start the car more often! (& let it run for 20 mins).
- leave the windows open a crack to get a bit of air flow.
- wipe down with mold killer periodically.

Any other ideas/advice?

Would a good quality outdoor cover help or make worse? Maybe spray on water proofing for the hood?

Thanks!

Mike

Have put a couple of cheap moisture traps in mine.
To early to say if it helps though.
For what they cost in the pound shop worth a try.

We put those in our caravan when in storage, They really do work but fill with moisture quite quickly,

I had the same problem with mine after it was left out for several days in torrential rain. (by a garage, not by me and I wasn't best pleased). I wiped the offending areas down with a rag that had been soaked in vinegar and then wrung out, then left the car in the garage with the windows open. Seems OK now. Ventilation is important.

I had a similar problem last year, I used Detol mold and mildew remover which worked briliantly.

I now regularly use the karcher window vac to extract as much moisture as possible.

A breathable waterproof cover will help keep the rain off, but the best option is to use the car regularly :)

Thanks for all the replies - I've got one of those dehumidifier bag thingy's & made sure there is some airflow but it still seems to take on moisture at an alarming rate!

I guess we'll see how it works out.

Thanks again!

Have you checked the carpets? Are they wet? You might have water ingress somewhere?

Mold is the American spelling, mould is the English version.
