Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Shocker bushes

Post by fatbaldingoldgit » Fri May 29, 2015 2:35 pm

I am replacing the standard suspension on my LE500 with the VHS Comfort Pack Bilsteins.

I ordered poly bushes (2x of RNF100090LPOLY) for each damper to replace the 2 x RNF100090 that will no doubt be past their best.

The Rimmers diagram for both the MGR TF and the later Chinese versions show only 2 bushes are needed - Nos 4 and 8 (OK they don't look the same but they have the same part number)

Trouble is upon dismantling the shockers I find I have 3 bushes on both the front dampers..and the 3rd one is not the same as the other 2!

The replacement Poly bushes seem to fit although there are only 2 of them.

Maybe it's a Chinese TF thing...Anyone seen this on MGR TFs?

Sorry can't help on this as I fitted Bilsteins to my first TF 9 years ago and can't remember now!

Interestingly my latest Bilsteins for my 160 bought off ebay and supposedly for an 85th have the wrong bumpstops supplied, they don't fit the damper shaft. I presume yours have the VHS supplied correct size.

umm..interesting..well there is a bump stop fitted on each damper so I am assuming it's the right one.

I bought the kit from the MGOC because I got fed up waiting for a reply from VHS..although the did respond eventually..but too late..

I was supplied the wrong ones with my eBay kit a couple of years back too, they were just the OEM black ones, too small to fit over the shoulder on the damper.

I had to source the correct ones through VHS, they are larger yellow / beige colour items made from a more foam like material as supposed to the firm rubber of the OEM.

@FBI - You will most certainly have the right ones from MGOC
@Tipper - Did you drill out the black OEM ones or are still hunting for the correct ones? Perhaps Bilstein can help?
