Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.
Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.
Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway!
Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Yes, except that when it happens on the road, the tacho keeps reading, the needle doesn't drop to zero which it does when the ignition switch key is turned off while driving.
Keep 'em coming!

Re: MPi stalling
How do you know that electrical power has failed?
I agree that the above suggests that the main ignition has not failed.
Loss of power to the ignition relay?

Re: MPi stalling
Bit of a false dawn, I found the bolt grounding the battery -ve to the inner wing had undone itself a few turns tightened it up and the car started fine, revved and ticked over fine........and then died and wouldn't restart! Back to square one, except that now I am uncomfortable about taking it on the road if it won't restart.

Re: MPi stalling
OK it is sorted!
I am extremely lucky that Tony ('itsonlyme' of this forum) lives nearby and was kind enough to supply me with a suite of known good sensors to start the diagnosing with. When I was getting no further, he came over and swapped out my ECU and 5AS with a known good set for a very reasonable price. Bingo!
The problem was obviously the ECU. When we took the old one apart it looked OK, but had green conformal coating on both sides making a visual check pretty pointless and any rework pretty random and time consuming. The old one had done 190k miles but many cars would have been scrapped for the cost of a new one or professional diagnosis.
Note that the error message on a modern professional garage code reader consistently came up with two faults - I can't recall the exact wording - 'fault with injectors 1/4' and 'fault with injectors injectors 2/3' . The only electrical commonality for these pairings is the negative drive in the ECU, as the positives are supplied individually to each injector. At this time (040D) the pscan was not able to deduce these faults, but we live in hope!

Re: MPi stalling
Great news Charles! Let Philip know the diagnosis, the codes etc, and he may be able to provide this information on the next firmware update
Great that Tony was able to help too. I've been trying to get hold of Tony for ages - but he hasn't responded to texts or PMs and his mobile has been switched off when I've tried to call him?

Re: MPi stalling
Ah! That'd be why! Thanks Tony - will amend my contact list, thanks
Re: MPi stalling
Hi Charles,
Send me the old broken ECU. I can power it up on the bench and see why pscan.eu didn't read those codes.
