Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.
Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.
Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway!
Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Yes, but the principal is the same.

Mems3 mapping
Or......you could just make a mountain out of a mole hill.
I'll try and make this as simple as I can.
If you put the cars VIN into the ecu that is in the car, if it gets stolen and the oik grinds the VIN off of the car body.....there is a record of it in the ecu so it can be returned to the owner.
So, like I said, when the Vectra was mapped, this was done. Exactly the same as the MG mems 3 ecu.
It really is that simple. No tea, coffee or lemonade.....just a security measure.

Re: Mems3 mapping
Interesting thread, thanks! Coming to this a bit late, but nothing much to add... other than to note that not all MEMS3 are exactly the same. MEMS3 destined for VVC, Steptronic or a turbo have additional hardware drivers (on the VVC for example to actuate the VVC hydraulic control unit, or on the turbo, the waste gate). MEMS3 for MPi engines with manual gearboxes do away with this additional complexity.
Therefore a VVC MEMS3 can be loaded with a 135 Map and run the engine entirely satisfactorily. Vice versa is not quite possible.
Unfortunately, at this present time, I don't think that MEMS/ Pektron SCU matching is possible on the pscan, but it is possible for MEMS 1.9/2J/3 and Lucas 5AS SCU. I'd be happy to assist if the latter, but we'd need to engage Philip's services to try and sort out the former.
But since Mark's remap is such a lovely thing, I think the option you've taken is certainly the best Steve!

Re: Mems3 mapping
Thanks for the offer Rob. Took the Z&F route and glad I did. The engine now runs a lot smoother and you can certainly feel the extra power. Apparently also, you get 10% better fuel consumption too.....although as I only did 40 miles last year, I don't think this will save me a bundle!!

Re: Mems3 mapping
I thought you'd be pleased with it Steve Now you need to do some more miles on that car

Re: Mems3 mapping
The pscan tool works fine for matching the engine ECU to the Pektron SCU.
Remember, the learning process is done via the engine ECU, it is told to learn the immobiliser code being presented to it.
In this regard it is dumb, it just needs the code to be in the correct format, it doesn't matter if the code is coming from a 5AS, 10AS, SCU or even a PIC processor loaded with a very simple program.
I recently matched a MEMS2J ECU to a Land Rover Freelander 27VT BCU, a combination that didn't exist ex-factory, the VVC engine had originally been in a Rover 200vi with a 5AS alarm ECU, the
engine ECU accepted the code without any problems.

Thanks for that confirmation Paul
Re: Mems3 mapping
What's this pscan thingy? Take it its some sort of scanner for MGs, but it's not one I've heard of before.

because I was talking crap, you see, I don't know much about Vauxhalls and haven't driven any since my dads 1.6 Cavalier 20 years ago.cavaddict wrote:I wonder why ' talkingcrap' has deleted all his posts?!
But you've done me a favour, I shall save my breath and let those who do know about MGs do the posting.
