Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

WET WET WET - carpets that is & which diagnostic kit

Post by scimitargtc » Tue Feb 02, 2016 9:25 pm

OK - new to me Madge the MG has so far thrown up v.few issues and am grinning ear to ear - I have a Reliant Scimitar waiting for me to fit her new stainless steel fuel tank, buy new carpets wire up the XJS electric mirrors (that I fitted 9 years ago --- really!!!!!!!!!) and said I'd not buy a 'sports car' with anything with less than 6 cylinders BUT for some reason just b4 xmas delved into MGTF world ==== back to the last 2 weeks ----- carpet are WET = really wet - thought with puppy training pads they'd dry = NOPE === got so far with getting the carpets out - seats out central dash out realised there's more work to get the central console out which was going to do today - have left the 1.5kw fan heater in the car swapping from n/s to o/s every waking hour and car is 99% dry BUT

leaning across the car to move the carpets I got a run of water down my arm - thinking it was the frame seals -- but it seems water is running down the door cards and into the car (my next check had been to check the front bonnet air box) on both sides --- I'm not 100% convinced and will run the obligatory hose pipe at the weekend = door drain holes are all clear.........

Also with a cold atmosphere and hot interior from the fan heater there's some 'sweating' - thought it was the foam exuding water bit by bit but its definitely 'sweating' "I think"

Am I missing any points here???? still can't decide whether to buy pscan (which can't program remotes on the Pektron system - not that I need to yet BUT.....) or an upgrade to my BlackBox Solutions MSV Extreme which also can't program remotes is limited to 1 VIN but is a known system even if £50 more expensive -- probably wait until I do have an issue

I undo the roof clips, open the roof, close the clips and then rest the roof on the windscreen surround when drying out the interior.

www.pscan.eu are working on the Pektron systems.

As James says, Philip is working on the Pektron. It will soon be able to read the EPAS ECU. In fact, other than the MG Rover "Testbook" (the official dealership diagnostic tool), I don't think there is anything on the market that will read all the ECUs on the car? If, like me, you own more than one MG/ Rover (or even Land Rover), then the pscan makes sense - it isn't limited to one vehicle. :D

The leak - check the glass closure to the A-pillar. If not quite perfectly adjusted, it can pinch the internal drain channel, and the water will find another course - usually into the interior :( Good idea to check the heater box seal, but on TF, this is usually not the problem it was/is on earlier MGFs. :)

The only thing preventing me from doing the Pektron unit is access to a vehicle. Someone in Greenwich offered me access to their car but I don't remember who and now I can't find the post. Really I could do with someone a bit closer, I am in Ruislip near M25/J16.

If you really get stuck, I'll see whether I can borrow the in-law's 2004 face-lift ZS120

Can anyone confirm that this is a Pektron SCU?

Yes it is, Philip, and being a YWC001541 it should be the more reliable one. The predecessor YWC001540 was known to be playing up quite often.

If you do play around with it, may I ask for something? 8-) It would be nice to have the activation of features (boot release, coolant low level indicator …). Oh, and coding in new fobs would be great too, although these need to come with their respective bar codes, I’m afraid.

Good, because I just paid £75 for it. I don't have an EMS2000 either so two birds with one stone.

Will try my best. If anyone has any spare fobs (with bar code) that they can lend me..... I assume that the fob will not know that it is being programmed into a different Pektron.
