Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Hood setup (soft top)

Post by jdd » Sun Aug 07, 2016 7:31 pm

Hello,

I'm french, forgive my english faults :-(

I have for one year now a RHD 2004 MG TF, I'm very satisfied of. I only had to fix minor setups since I buy it.

One thing I don't know how to fix is the fact that the hood (soft top, I don't know exactly the English word) do not fold completely:

http://dodin.info/piwigo/picture.php?/1 ... search/688

so that, for example, I can't fit the tonneau cover. I can lock the hood closed, it's a bit hard but manageable and there is no water inside when raining, so I don't want to disturb too much the hood setup. No problem to drive, even on highway.

I guess the position is managed by these small levers:

but hey are not so easy to unmount and one need to disassemble the system to change the lenght. So do I need to make them longer or smaller to make the hood fold better? is there some other thing I can change?

Thanks

Bonjour jdd,

The hoods can be a little difficult to fold flat enough to fit the tonneau cover. I have found that you need to unzip the rear window and lay it flat (rather than folded) and then you need to be a little forceful with the folding mechanism and push it down hard. It will not fold totally flat and you then have to be patient and fit the tonneau stretching it as much as possible to achieve the final fit.
You should not need to alter those little adjusters to enable the hood to fit flat.
Hope that helps.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

When you undo the catches push up the second rail before folding the roof.

Make sure the rear window is not creased as you fold the roof.
