Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. Roll Hoops which Roof is OK?

Post by c13amb » Fri Aug 19, 2016 12:15 pm

Hi all am considering roll hoops for my TF soon, the question is I have a glass rear window on the roof and I've read somewhere that all won't fit under it without fear of breaking the glass :o .
I'm looking at Mike Satur's version or MGF Centre's are these OK for under the roof?
The other question is once fitted will I have to replace the plastic T bar plastic cover as mine already has the mesh windstop fitted which I will no longer need as it'll have the glass windbreak as part of the purchase!
Cheers in advance guys n gals! ! :thumbsu:

Your best bet in my opinion is do what I did and get the proper MG XPower mk2 hoops and fitting kit.

The Mk1's wont fit

Why fit copies when you can get the real thing ?? 8-)

I can go with that Colin...but can you fit a windstop with them? Will they fit OK under a glass windowed roof?

I never bother with one, but there was an MG XPower wind stop that fitted over the hoops 8-)

I believe that the windstop is as rare as rocking horse doo! !
When you've a wife like mine who wants no wind to "ruin" her hair it becomes a bit essential really!!

I would (and did) go with the Mike Satur hoops. They work fine with a glass screen, and IMO are better looking then then other options.
Only thing to be wary of is when lifting the rear of the hood to access the engine bay cover, you have remember to lift the screen over the hoops and then put something between the glass and hoop to stop it getting scratched.

FWIW the MIke Satur hoops predate the X-Power hoops by many years, where do you think X-power copied got the idea from

Thanks Steve appreciate the recommendation that's what it will be all things considered!
Is it worth sourcing a 2nd hand item??

I had on my original F 'X P'wer Hoops ' with a windstop, bur plastic rear window.
Now have half roll cage, still with plastic window BUT no windstop

Hi Andrew,

Can you post a photo of your hoops?

If I get a set do I need to drill/cut the bodywork to fit them
or do they bolt in/out? I would like hoops for the occasional track day
but I really don't want to 'modify' the car either.

Most hoops are NOT structural.

I think the X power ones are but most are not.

Mike Satur hoops are probably the strongest, have toughened glass windstop and work with glass screened hoods

Used is fine, as mentioned the ms ones are fine with a glass window, mk 1 x power hoops won't work with a glass screen.

Robbo, you need to drill the t bar cover for the hoops to go through & replace the bar underneath it.

It all depends of the size of the glass rear window. I use the xpower mk1 roll hoops (those which are bended forward) together with a glass rear window from Mgfmania for some years now without any problems on my TF.
The rear glass window from Mgfmania still uses the zip and is a bit smaler than the original from MGR without the zip. The original one can't be used with the mk1 roll hoops. This is the reason why MGR commercialized the mk2 roll hoops which are fitted through the t-bar (the mk1 are fitted behind the t-bar).
