Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

I may have just had a moment of enlightenment. When I swapped the engine, i changed all the sensors, injectors etc. The only thing I didn't change was the crank position sensor. I assumed they where the same and as the car started and ran ok, also assumed it was good. I have just seen on another forum that they may be different between MEMs 1.9 and 3. Can anyone confirm this?
I think there is a saying about assumption being the mother of all fluff ups. I am hoping to high heaven that this is my problem.

Phil - could only find one cps listed. I'm guessing you've put in a faulty camshaft sensor or plugged the wrong connector to it. Bad connection on sensor? Worth rechecking that you've not got any damaged pins.

Just another thought. Have you rechecked that your camshafts are accurately set and one not one tooth out?

There does look to be a different sensor for each, difficult to find online. But I think these are them:

3.7 - Sensor - Crankshaft NSC100760 (1 Req)(SENSORS (MGF&TF))£23.95

4.8 - Screw - Crank sensor fixing FS105167 (1 Req)(SENSORS (MGF&TF))£0.72

5.Crank sensor (long pin) MGF(ELECTRICS)£23.95

6.Crank sensor (long pin) ZR(Z ELECTRICS)£34.95

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. A replacement ECU and 5AS cured the problem. The cat and lambda also needed doing as the overfuelling had killed them. Anyway it's all good now, emission are now in spec :D
