Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.
Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.
Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway!
Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

How to check MEMS 1.9 Map sensor
Does anyone know how to check the function of a mems 1.9 map sensor without the aid of a reader? Is there somewhere i can monitor an output change?

Thanks Bob.. that is an awesome site.. nothing on there about the ECU onboard map sensor.. and if it's not on there I think I'm going to struggle

Like I asked on the other thread - do you have a vacuum line between ECU and inlet manifold?

Yes, it's in good condition with no leaks. I wasn't sure what the black box was on the side of the engine bay, inline with this, as it didn't appear to do anything but I am assuming it is a flame arrester to stop any back fires getting to the ECU.

Maybe apply a vacuum to the hose with the engine running, it should result in a change of idle speed...?

Oh, thought I'd responded to this earlier.. yes, have tried that but difficult to see if it made a difference. Certainly didn't seem to have any effect on the revs. But may have changed the fuelling.

Ideally you need a diagnostic reader - it certainly makes this sort of thing a lot easier! Shame you're not closer...

Re: How to check MEMS 1.9 Map sensor
Thanks for all the help... I bought a second hand ECU and 5AS and it cured the problem. Emissions are now ok and even the pesky surging idle has gone.
