Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.
Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. Outrageous Emissions Mk ll
EAB went in for the MOT yesterday and failed miserably on emissions NO at 2.3 instead of 0.3. Diagnostics indicated that the ECU could be at fault.
Removed the ECU this morning to find that it had been attended to in March 2006, when the car was 5 1/2 years old. Now awaiting a text from the Auto Electronics Co to advise me what's what. Couldn't have come at a more inconvenient time, as I'm hoping to go to MG Era at Brooklands next weekend, and I was advised that the ECU will probably not be ready before Wednesday. Here's hoping for good news. It's just as well I go for the MOT early, it's not due until the 18th April, so I'll have a bit of time if the worst comes to the worst.
The other problem, the Handbrake was an easy fix with new discs and pads. I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed.

It is unusual for the ECU to fail, did they give you more info?

Not that made sense to me. I'm afraid that I'm not really au fait with modern electronics. Trembler Coils and Magnetos are more my line!

Hi, I had a similar problem with mine.. not sure what MEMS you have but my mems 1.9 was over fuelling really badly. Nothing showed up on the diagnostics but after changing the ECU for a second hand unit it went through. I have assumed that the onboard MAP sensor was at fault.

Collected the ECU on Thursday, to be informed that it was functioning faultlessly. Re-fitted on Friday and the car ran perfectly to Brooklands and back on Sunday. The garage are going to look at it this week, and hopefully track-down and replace the faulty component.

So glad we don't have to pass an emissions test out here in the colony.
Headlights, blinkers and a half functioning brake pedal are all I need to pass,
but they are quite strict here on tyre tread depth.

Didn't get looked at this week, would you believe the everyday car's MOT expires on the same day as the F's. So in the interests of a happy homelife the everyday car won. Still I get to use the F over the Easter weekend and then won't need it until the 30th.

Well, I'm still none the wiser. Car went in for the MOT and passed. But failed the first Fast Idle test; then, after some serious revving, passed on the second attempt. So I've now got a few months to find the root cause of the problem. I suspect one of the sensors will prove to be the culprit.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I don't think you can change the parameters and TBH it'll be cheaper and quicker just to replace the £5 sensor.
Make sure you replace like with like, brown with brown or black with black (blue is for the dash gauge).
