Good evening,
just fitted some new Pagid pads to the front of the VVC and after 200 miles I notice that the pads are only using about two thirds of the disc are and the area on the disc near the hub is untouched, ie still rusty. Both sides are exactly the same.
Is this normal or have I missed something ?

Looks like pads are not sitting flat in the carrier, the only answer will be is too Strip them down and have a look. I'm most probably stating the obvious, but the pistons slid back ok, and the slides have been lubricated?

I would agree but would add that the carrier slides and the location pins should be cleaned and lubricated .
Another consideration would be if budget pads may turn out to be the most expensive ( and painful) in the long run.

Thanks for the replies. Intend to strip them down at the weekend and have a look. Didn't realise Pagid were budget pads though.

Pagid are pretty decent and aren't the cheap eBay stuff you can buy.

Most likely sticking in the caliper grooves - might be that some of the protective paint needs to be removed to ensure easy movement of the pads in and out.

I presume that the slider pins have not seized?

pins are all free and have just cleaned them all out again and greased up but to be fair have only driven about 150 miles. Will bed them in and see how they wear.

If the pads were new but not the discs it may be the disc face that is not level rather than the new pads so bedding in should sort it after a while.

Thank you. I was hoping this was going to be the case.

It's not just a matter of ensuring that the pins are greased - the pad backing plates have to be free to move relative to the caliper carrier. New pads can either have paint on the bearing surface (the bits that are at 90° to the pad face) or might even need a quick pass over a grindstone to ensure that they can move in and out freely. Working surfaces of those parts of the pad/caliper interface (not the pad material or the disc for obvious reasons) should be treated with anti seize compound such as copaslip to ensure free movement.
