Hi All,
So my knuckle joint is knackered (pics to follow)
Now I've noticed that when on the floor the knuckle is quite clearly not in place on the lower arm...now my question is has anyone ever swapped one of these without depressurising the hydragas? I ask because I'd rather not pay anyone to do it for me, so I'm thinking looking at the clearance I have, would it be possible to undo the bracket holding the sphere to give me enough room to get the old knuckle joint out and the new one in?
I'm hoping if I could remove the spehere from the bracket I would then have enough movement to lever the new knuckle into place before securing the sphere back in place?
Most of the guides seem to only cover fitting the lowering pins, so if worst comes to worst I will attempt it and see if I have any luck, I just hoping someone else had managed without having to depressurise the system.
Thanks,
Ryan

Re: MGF Hydragas Knuckle Joint
The hydragas fluid is at 400psi or thereabouts (assuming the car is riding correctly) so tinkering about with the mounting bracket without depressurising at least one half of the system is asking for trouble.

Re: MGF Hydragas Knuckle Joint
I'll be really difficult to do without depressurising the system - and in fact, I generally find it is necessary to apply a vacuum to the system to get sufficient clearance to get the knuckle assembly out of the hydragas sphere...

Re: MGF Hydragas Knuckle Joint
Vacuum is not needed. If system is empty you can just push the cone in with your hands. It indeed must be pushed in to get knuckle out.

Re: MGF Hydragas Knuckle Joint
Thanks for all of the information, my garage is only round the corner and has the pump to refill the spheres so I may go down the empty milk bottle route to depressurise and then call him over to pump it up once I've fitted the new knuckle
Seems like the most sensible route given the above, unless someone close to me has a pump, I can always ask someone from the central group as well as I'm not too far from Worcester either
