Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.
Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.
Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway!
Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Corroded speakers rant
Rant rant rant
I replaced my door speakers with pioneers which had previously been replaced by kenwoods (I posted pics in an earlier thread)
Now one of them stopped working so took it all apart and lo and behold the connections have rusted again, rant rant rant
My question here really is; can I stop this by adjusting the windows? One of the brackets with the rubber cover has been battered by the window stop so I'll be using the trick I've seen about reversing it and using the good edge so I can adjust the windows properly, with the windows properly adjusted will my speakers be safe? Or do I need to look into somehow water protecting the spades and terminals when I bit's the bullet and once again get new front speakers?
Edit to add picture; I'm assuming the gap between the window and the seal is the issue, and hoping to get rid of it with my messing around but any help or similar experiences would be great - thank you!

Plastic cover inverted so good side faces downwards - towards window stop

Re: Corroded speakers rant
How are the speakers been mounted oin the door?
The original speakers are mounted in a plastic housing that protects them from water ingress, has this been retained?

Re: Corroded speakers rant
The speakers have not got the plastic ring, the original owner had fitted kenwoods and already disposed of the surround
Thanks TC, I don't know why I didn't think of that!
I've been following dieters instructions; http://www.mgfcar.de/adjust/index_e.htm
However he says to align the adjuster to the back of the stud and this will tilt the window towards the car....now in my experience if you loosen the locknut and then tighten the adjuster this actually pulls the window IN at the bottom therefore out at the top.
So am I correct in thinking that if my window is leaning out too far I loosen the relevant nut on the bit that holds it to rail, G or H, I forget which at this moment and then loosen the locknuts that I then want to turn the adjuster anti clockwise to lengthen the threaded portion inside the door, ergo pushing the bottom of the window outwards and the top edge in?
Any feedback gratefully received

Re: Corroded speakers rant
I have a set of dead speakers still in the plastic ring if they are any use? Otherwise I used ZS speakers to replace the ones in the F... or you can possibly use MINI adaptor rings: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Mini-2001 ... XQBg5RqfnD

Re: Corroded speakers rant
Thanks for the link, I'm not really sure what to do as I don't have the kit to rivet the frames back in - plus I'd like the use aftermarket speakers if possible
The adaptors seem to be a good shout but would I have to drill new holes or just use really long screws haha?

Re: Corroded speakers rant
I've seen that apparently you can use Astra/vectra rings but how much would you want for the dead ones you have? May be easier for me to just drill the old speakers out and stick to oemZSx wrote:I have a set of dead speakers still in the plastic ring if they are any use? Re: Corroded speakers rant
If we can arrange some way to get them to you I will dig them out tonight and you can have them
The MINI rings though, you screw the aftermarket speakers into them, and then the rings into the doors with the same screws that held the OE speakers in place

I'll have to take a look and see if I have screws that'll work in place of the originals as mine came with aftermarket speakers already fitted without the spacer
