Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.
Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. Hose clip removal
Hi all. Another piece of newbie stupidity. I am about to do the water pipe changeover on my F, and as part of it, I want to replace all the spring clips on the water pipes with stainless jubilee clips. However, I don't have any tool capable of releasing the spring clips! Anyone have a suggestion for the best tool to use for this? Thanks.

I just use mole grips or wide pliers.

Re: Hose clip removal
I was able to get mine off with normal pliers, it's a bit fiddly but doable. You need quite a large pair, maybe 4-5 inches long handles;
I must look into pump pliers though. This was the very first job I did on my car and I found it straightforward. Loctite on the cover plate bolts
is a good idea when you reassemble it.
You ARE on the right track in throwing the old clips away.
And since you say you are a newbie, I assume you have sourced the instructions for getting all the air out of the coolant
when you refill the system?

Yes, it's called "let the garage do it." The car is going in for a service and pipe replacement to the TF PRT. I already have the complete set of TF replacement pipes and PRT, but the clips on them are old and frankly pretty rotten. I wanted to change them all for Stainless ones, before I hand the whole lot over to the garage to fit. (Although, knowing my luck, I will end up doing it myself at the garage, and then still owing them money.)

Re: Hose clip removal
It's a great tool but over £50 for a tool that will only get used a few times?

Re: Hose clip removal
A pair of pump pliers do the job just fine.
