Does anyone have any recommendations for higher power headlight bulbs for a TF? I know that there are numerous options on the market, but some of those are not road-legal, and others may generate excessive heat with the risk of damaging the headlight bodies. I'm not looking for something to burn out the eyeballs of oncoming drivers, just an upgrade that will improve the relatively poor lights I have now. Thanks in advance.

I've always fitted Osram Nightbreakers Eurocarparts have them on offer at the moment.

I agree. Nightbreakers transformed my F headlights.

Don't buy any of the chinese made so called 100W bulbs from that well known auction site. They're rubbish. Stick to the Osram Nighbreakers.

The newest type are the Nightbreaker Laser.

I've downloaded the Osram lamp finder app it's quite useful.

We should really call them lamps as any electrician will tell you bulbs are what you plant in your garden

So use less power than night breakers and resultingly generate less heat than night breakers, are slightly cheaper than night breakers and give more usable light than night breakers.

On my '05 TF 115 I found that the dipped-down bulbs are H7 and the mains are HB3A.

I could get the 130% H7 Ring XENON dipped bulbs (which seem to make a huge difference when you need extra light) but the comparable HP3A main bulbs came only as HP3s - which were a right angle fit and didn't seem the 'right fit' since the original HB3As have a straight-fit version of the same bulb. I've since found on the forums that they can 'just about fit' since the cable has some slack...

So, I put the HB3As back in, but the brighter H7s are a welcome improvement. Of course it doesn't help that the plastic outers become misty over a decade...

I'm noticing that led bulbs are beginning to become popular now; I wonder if that's a new way to go?

I've changed my 85th anniversary headlights to Hide for dipped beam and LED for main beam. It's made a huge difference.

Mmm, Hide + LED? Sounds interesting...any more details please?

Many thanks to everyone for their helpful suggestions. The Osram Nightbreakers look like a good option. Sorry to seem a bit dim (rather like my headlamps!) but is there any difference between an HB3A bulb (sorry, lamp) and an HB3? The various websites seem to show HB3 only.

HB3A is a str. line fit like this...

Philips GT200 H7 for dipped beam, and Philips GT 150 HB3 for high beam. Really good.
