Large charging circuit fuse blew this morning, not determined why yet. The fuse was 60 amp but looking for a replacement on line , they appear to be 80 amp. Please confirm correct size and reasons why it would blow. MG TF MY2005.

Thanks , Andrew.

Hi Andrew - HNY.

I thought the experts would have piled in by now   , but I can only offer a few crumbs of advice.

My 02 TF has an 80 amp fuse, and an 85 amp alternator. The fuse is in the line going to the starter motor terminal, and then onto the battery. The fuse is on the engine side of the boot/ engine compartment bulkhead at the top as you know.
I assume your TF will be the same.

I can only guess the alternator has gone, mine went last year. While you're at it, check the earthing straps between the block and body for corrosion - in fact all the connections, battery etc.

Good luck - give me a ring if you want to.

Jerry.

Hi Jerry , thanks for your response. I fitted a new alternator in March 2017 & fortunately it had a 12 months warranty , so will be fitting a new one today. Also fitting a new 80 amp fuse instead of the 60 amp. All connections and earthing straps etc. seem fine. Never had a moments problem with electrics until the original alternator failed last year. Fingers crossed new alternator will last longer than 10 months but at least I have a further 12 months warranty. Hope you are keeping well and we can catch up when the weather breaks.

Andrew
