Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Pulse Speedo Flicker Fixed

Post by geoff » Tue Nov 06, 2007 9:59 am

Hi All

Over the past year I have posted a number of threads on a number of forums re a wobbly/flicking speedo, during which time I have had the car into a couple of garages.

Yesterday the problem was fixed!

The problem had been caused by the wiring harness chafing at a point under the manifold near to the thermo housing and causing the cable to earth and thus causing the flicking speedo.

The cable has been repaired and re routed and now I have a true speed reading.

I hope my description is clear enough for people to understand (I am no mechanic!)

So many thanks to the guys at SIGNATURE in Preston. It took them a morning to find, they supplied a courtesy car and the bill came to £40.

Having read and heard of cables and wires chafing, I wonder if it would be worth while starting a thread on known chafing weak spots (let's keep the replies sensible please!)

Hope this helps any other sufferers.
