Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

loss of power

Post by cococola » Sat Sep 12, 2020 9:58 pm

I’ve got another problem with my new Mgf steptronic and wonder if anyone can help me please?
The car runs lovely except for every morning I drive down my road and as I go up a hill My Mg looses power as though there is a flat spot and I have to pull over, put the car into neutral and when I pull away everything is fine.
I do have a minor hunting when on tick over which is always there and the loss of power will not return until the following morning on the same route.
I have replaced my fuel filter and air filter.
The car did stand for a couple of years and was serviced before I purchased it and I have filled up fuel to 3quarters of a tank.
Apart from this issue and the steptronic noise, I love the car and I would love to fix these issues.

Have you tried the same trip later in the day when the car is fully warm?

Hi I'm not saying this is the fix (or whether your car is fitted with one) as further diagnosis would be required, but I do recall mg/rovers k series suffering with the post cat oxy sensor giving very similar fault. Really obvious flat spot from cold then fine afterwards till next day. May be worth looking into.
