On my recent purchase Mgf 2000 steptronic, I can change from drive straight into reverse gear without having a stop point.
Is this normal or is there an adjustment/something missing please as other auto cars that I have ownedyou had to push a button in on the gear stick.?

I did wonder as pushing the lever too far when driving doesnt bear thinking about.

Hi. Going from P you should depress chrome button on "stick" and you then move through rest of positions. Moving back toward reverse you should then have to depress button again. There are inhibitors in the system so gearbox will not engage reverse when moving forward. In conversation with Ian Pogson a few years ago he mentioned the fact you could pop into reverse when being tailgated to flash reversing lights, although I have never tried it

Thats a big help Stu, at least I have protection to stop going into reverse gear with the inhibitors.
I think I need to remove the gear lever knob to start with and see if something is missing on the button change.

An update with the gear selection ,I removed and refitted the gear selection knob and everything works as it should now. I think the knob wasnt locked on properly and I have tried the car on the road andd all is good.
