Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Handbrake cable disconnection.

Post by Rory&Ben » Wed Jul 06, 2022 9:20 pm

Rory and I are starting out on a restoration, so this will be the first of many request for help I expect... We are taking the rear subframe out, and we’re stuck at how to get the hand brake cables out of the callipers. We can’t see how to get the cables in red out of the L-shaped brackets (green).

Can anyone help please?

Thanks.

There is a U shaped spring clip which sits tightly into a groove in the solid union on the cable outer. If you have removed it the union can still be held in by a mix of crap and corrosion. Wiggle it robustly!

As Charles says!

Oh, and definitely worth investing in a workshop manual. Also, electronic parts catalogues are really helpful to help work out how things go together. Rimmer Bros have one on their website, also Dieter has one on his website: http://www.mgfcar.de/

If that fails just undo the two bolts on the bracket...

Hi and welcome to the forum

There are plenty of how to guides on the internet including some at the T bar (link below).

Also Haynes manuals for the MGZR and for the metro cover some parts of the F and TF as they didn't get their own.
