Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

? Lower Speedo cable on MGF Mk1 same as a MK2

Post by MarkB » Fri Sep 16, 2022 11:32 am

Does anyone know if the lower 'gearbox' speedo cable MGF MK1 is the same fitting nut to the gearbox as a MK2?

Refuse to pay the now £100+ from Rimmers for a new one. A shortish gear cable and a nut at the end. Hoping to pull one out from a breaking one. :)

As per Geoff - the mk2 doesn't have a cable.

There are 2 versions of the cable, very early have only 2 sections and the rest have 3 sections.

It is possible to make a new end section from a good middle.

Start by measuring the longer one and mark where you will cut it. (IIRC it is 1280mm but don't quote me)
Carefully file the section just before the cut to a square profile matching the original.
Then cut the cable to length.

I tried doing this and almost got it right but messed up the cut using a blunt implement and then managed to source a cheap ready made one.
