Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

High level brake light

Post by Richard Withington » Tue Oct 25, 2022 9:35 am

The high level brake light on my 2012 TF has failed. I have tried a replacement LED unit without success, the other two brake lights are working normally, so there seems to be a break in connection between them and the high level feed. ( Mazda light conversion)
Short of running another cable outside the loom has anyone any suggestions. Is there another connector not apparent?

Have you checked for breaks in the wiring loom around the boot lid hinge area where the loom is continually flexing? It’s a notorious MGF/ TF failure point and does carry the rear lighting wiring.

As above, one or more of the cables in the loom by the boot hinge will have failed, possibly hidden inside its PVC cover.

Easy fix is just to run a twin flex cable to one of your rear light clusters and tap in to the brake light feet & earth.

Thanks for replies, as suggested cable broken close to where it branches from main rear loom.
