Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

TF SEAT REFURB PARTS

Post by Steve55 » Fri Dec 16, 2022 8:56 am

ImageHi all. Does anyone know if seat upholstery parts are available please. I’m replacing the alcantara centres of my seats with faux leather but the plastic trim that secures it to the frame is in poor condition, plus the elasticated webbing piece underneath has split in half.
I’m sure I could use hog rings to attach, and ‘manufacture’ a replacement for the webbing, but original items would be better?

I don't think you'll find anywhere that will sell direct replacements. Upholsterers will probably be unwilling to help either, as will probably offer to do the whole job themselves
I think it will be craft shops, Ebay for an old seat you can cannibalise , or Newton Commercials. I guess that as you are undertaking such a job yourself, you will find a way yourself :thumbsu:

Earlier this year I had my drivers seat treated to a alcantara middle section, with black leather sides/bolsters. Most of the hidden stuff fell apart like yours, so basically he had to completely renew the entire lot - not cheap. The passenger seat was fine in the original Sebring? cloth and left alone.
I like the alcantara, warm in winter, cool in summer and no sliding about.

When I've changed seat covers I have substituted metal hog rings with 2mm cable ties.

I would try looking at suppliers of parts for classic car restorers.

I’ve been looking at Woolies and Newtons. I’ve just bought some clips off the Bay that should replace my broken ‘J’ shaped plastic fittings. 🤞🏻
