Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.
Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.
Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway!
Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Drivers window
My 1998 Abingdon has only done 5k miles and is garage stored, with hood down, but the driver's window doesn't fit into the hood rubber (rear side or top) when fully raised, unless raised with door already shut. No damage either to door or hood. Passenger's window is fine. Any ideas, please?
Is it possible to raise windows externally, with the locking remote, perhaps? Thanks, Graham.

Re: Drivers window
Photos of the gap would clarify where & what the problem is, exactly. The fact that you imply that there is no gap or no problem when "raised with door already shut" implies that the window is rising TOO far, and is TOO high to "fit into" (presumably you mean under or within) "the hood rubber"?Maritime wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 5:17 pmMy 1998 Abingdon has only done 5k miles and is garage stored, with hood down, but the driver's window doesn't fit into the hood rubber (rear side or top) when fully raised, unless raised with door already shut. That sounds like you need to remove the door card, loosen the fixed stop and adjust it down slightly, to stop the window from rising too far. Sorry this is somewhat out-of-focus.
The MOVING stop on the bottom of the window, is shown below: The inside of the drivers door with door card removed is below:
I think the smaller square hole just left of my left-hand green circle is the one you need to loosen.

Re: Drivers window
Thanks, Ellso.Jo, will try and investigate further, though I'm leery about prising off door cards. Couldn't be something adrift on the hood frame, I suppose? Thanks, again, Graham.

Re: Drivers window
A second vote for the window stop from me, having had this problem with my original yellow plastic stops, now converted to the square allen key type in the photo above.

Re: Drivers window
Thanks for the "Thanyou"
As regards worries about prising off door cards, there are good "how tos" on this site and the MG-Rover.Org site. These usually are related to changing door locks or other items which obviously require the door card to be removed as a first step. The main thing to remember are that there are 6 screws to be removed before any prising should be attempted. Also prise out wards as close as possible to the pop-in fasteners, to avoid bending the fastener or snapping the door card. I use a couple of plastic store loyalty cards, one each side of the fastener, rather than, or in addition to, a steel tool, to avoid scratching the paint. Good luck, I have now done door card removal 5 times for a variety of reasons, and even I have not broken anything (yet!!!)

If you do break any clips try vehicleclips.co.uk, for example TF door card clips £1.20 ish each +PP from the big boys, £3.49 inc PP for 10 from them, OK 10 min but so what I presume most of us have friends. They have 1000s of clips, fir tree, bonnet stay you name it, all with clear photos and measurements. I have no connection with them but have found them good for various clips, its just the time searching Happy Hunting.
