Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

MGF engine management light comes on and stays on

Post by Hug358y » Tue Jun 27, 2023 8:04 am

I have a 2001 MGF and the engine management light (yellow) comes on and stays on.
I took it to a garage who connected it to OBD and the fault was emissions.
The garage cleared the fault but the light returned about 2 weeks later.
I had a new CAT converter fitted but the problem still occurred. The light came back on after about a month.

The car drives perfectly.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

You really need to a better fault code than just a general emissions fault to work with. A professional code reader or Pscan for DIY should give you a close indication of what is causing the EML to trigger. the P??? code will point to something like Misfire Cylinder 1, Catalyst Below Efficiency Threshold, Lambda Sensor Bank 1, or something reasonable specific.

Example - Code P0135 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

Good luck
