Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Screen washer pump

Post by llanigraham » Thu Aug 31, 2023 8:00 pm

The screen washer on my recently acquired MGF could best be described as a dribbler.
Can anyone tell me where the pump is situated, how I get to it, how easy is it to get to and where can I get a replacement?

The washer pump is on the side of the washer bottle in the front compartment. To get to it you have to remove 4 plastic rivnut things holding the bendy black plastic cover hiding the wiper motor on the front bulkhead.
Two are visible very easily, the other two are right at the bottom of the black cover. if you have a spare wheel, you will have to remove it.
The washer bottle is held in by the usual MG-R sliding clip, and the pump can be wiggled out/off. Follow the washer black rubber hose if uncertain, but it is the work of moments to get to.
I guess any MG-R vehicle will have the same pump. Rimmer Bros have very good supplies of most things - not the cheapest, but you can be certain of a OEM part.
Whilst in there, see if the non return valve in the line is free flowing - again Rimmers can supply.
See my reply to your "welcome" post.

Give it a full clean out first, and as mgfnut says check the non-return valve.

One piece of grit stuck in the wrong place could be causing your issue.

I replaced my entire washer system during my rebuild, hose, joints and all,
and it didn't cost much. All available from Rimmers.
